Been sort of crazy round here. By sort of crazy, I mean VERY crazy.
I have a part-time job that seems more like a full-time job. I pull between four and five days a week, selling laptop bags. Work's been - interesting, for the most part. For one thing, although I am a skilled saleswoman, I'm a total slob. Workplace a mess, every workday. So The Boss has been draggin' me over the coals about that. It's a part of my life - proffessional and personal - that I need to fix, because nobody likes a mess everywhere.
In between commissions I've also been working for a website: [link] as an items/npc/poster artist. There's a decent chunk of stuff on there now that's by me, as well as a host of other talented artists. I guess that's why you haven't been seeing as much personal work from me, although I have some ideas in the pipeline. An offshoot of working for lura is that I'm now much better at drawing anthros.
You may have noticed some manga-styled art falling into my inbox. No, I'm not changing my style. I love comics WAY too much. But I believe it's important to be competent in a number of different styles (though I've never got the hang of chibi) because freelancing is a tough world, and much of the work for online artists out there is manga based. So call it a segue from my original style. I plan on teaching a comic book/manga class in my home city (comics for me, manga for the people who want to learn it) and thus would look a bit of a duffer if I was totally unversed in the style. In other words, heap as much critique on me as you can for my manga work, I NEED IT. And yes, i know the proportions are a bit off - they're supposed to be. Manga is disproportionate.
Speaking of comics and critiques:
I met Dave Gibbons (artist of Watchmen) and Nicola Scott (artist of Birds of Prey) at Supanova this year. And they were kind enough to critique an inked picture of Rorschach i gave them. Both are humble, talented and inspirational artists - I think i flummoxed Mr Gibbons a bit, though.
Me: 8D *plonks rorschach drawing down on table.*
Dave: Uh, do you want me to sign it?
Me: "I'd like it even better if you'd tell me where i've gone wrong! 8DDDD"
Dave: "uuuh..."
But he did. And so did nicola. They were both gentle but helpful in the way they pointed out things i could have done better - but both ultimately LIKED MY WORK. They said so with a STRAIGHT FACE.
I am living on cloud nine, folks. It's doubled my enthusiasm for freelance comicking as a career. Picked up some new cardex (oooh, the smooth lines and glorious inking. Nom nom nom) and have been experimenting with new colouring stratagem.
Didn't make it past round 2 of Miss SDL. Ah well. =exileddelusion and *BlackLillian, take up Kit's mantle as Beauty Queen and GO!
I'm working on commissions between work and sleep. Thankyou so much for your generosity, people - it makes me feel all warm and squooshy inside, and =TheCrowchan and i certainly appreciate it.
Yours,
The pummellin' Pixie

So at this point... I guess it's more 'at your leisure'
base points from the journal:
-insp./lovingly ripped from Urban Rivals Online Trading Card Game. the more you fight with your cards, the more awesome the characters look.
-1 OC (or more if you wish) in 2 to 5 stages of development/evolution. if you can find an Urban Rivals Template, great, if not, that's fine too. it's mostly about OC Development over time; not neccesaraly making proxy cards.
... and I guess I'll answer any unresolved questions or issues if the need arises.
